| Our Facility Our facility located in the UMD BioPark is in close proximity to multiple international airports, shipping hubs, and various custom courier services. From the ground up, our facilities and quality systems have been designed to the highest standards, featuring multiple redundancy infrastructure, and a validation approach that meets or exceeds regulatory guidelines and industry standards. To support the facility, FDA-compliant Quality Systems are fully developed and implemented. Electrical Redundancy: We have strategically selected Building 2 of the UMD BioPark because of the electrical redundancy already built in. Two separate power feeds enter the building, with each feed coming from a separate power substation within Baltimore City. Meaning if one grid fails, the power will be automatically switched to the other grid. To further support the power supply, we have installed a natural gas generator on the roof of Building 2. All critical controlled temperature units, the fan coiled units, chiller, and equipment monitoring system are all connected to generator supported circuits. An interface in the storage area provides access to generator operation, alarms, and controls. Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) The HVAC system installed utilizes the main floor Air Handler. To support the floor Air Handler Fan Coiled Units have been installed in the facility storage area and laboratory. Each Fan Coiled Unit operates independently. If one unit fails to operate the remaining units will continue operation to maintain a controlled environment in the storage area. A chiller has been installed on the roof of Building 2. The chiller is designed with free-cooling in order to take advantage of energy efficiency in appropriate outside air conditions. The chiller is equipped with 2 individual circuits; each circuit with 2 individual compressors. The chiller has been further optimized so that each individual compressor runs separately. Compressors will only initiate if the running compressor(s) cannot meet the demand of the storage area. The capacity of the chiller has been designed so that if 1 chiller circuit fails, the remaining circuit can handle the demand of the storage area. Equipment Monitoring System (EMS) A validated Tempsys Checkpoint EMS has been installed in the facility. The system utilizes the latest advances in wireless technology to provide secure non-interference equipment and facility temperature monitoring. To ensure minimal risk of data loss, each wireless device can store days of data in case of network or signal failure. The EMS provides rapid retrieval of real-time and trend data. Security Building 2 of the BioPark is monitored by a 24-hour, 7-day security desk, enhanced by video surveillance. To support the BioPark security, Vigilant has installed a dedicated security and video surveillance system within the facility. Data Network Our data network is backed up with an additional level of electrical redundancy, as well as, monitored by a 3rd party in case of network failure. Data is backed up at defined intervals to allow for rapid recovery of critical systems in event of a network failure. ![]() Our Facilities at the University Of Maryland BioPark: We are proud to be a part of the University of MD, Baltimore (UMB) BioPark. Quality Solutions, LLC and Vigilant Bioservices serve a community of life science companies and academic research centers that are commercializing new drugs, diagnostics and devices and advancing biomedical research. |
